Apply and Review Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD)
The FDD contains critical information to assist you in understanding the Learning Express Toys franchise system. It consists of twenty-three items pertaining to the franchisor/franchisee relationship including our commitment to store support, information on franchise start-up costs, and ongoing fees.
Attend Discovery Day
Discovery Day, held at our corporate headquarters in Devens, MA, is a full day of meetings and discussions with the department heads and their teams who will work with you in opening, running and optimizing your business.
Secure a Location
Several key factors help us evaluate a retail space for Learning Express Toys. These include: local & regional demographics, proximity to other Learning Express Toys locations, center co-tenancy, competition, size & visibility of the premises, rent, and more. We will assist you in finding the right location and also help negotiate the right business terms. Your attorney will help you sort through and fully understand the final lease.
Training, Buildout & Grand Opening!
Come on back to Devens, MA and bring your notebooks! This week-long course puts you through nearly every aspect of operating your new business, from hiring staff to ordering product. We recommend that everyone involved in running the store attends training, including a store manager, if you are hiring one.
Building your Learning Express Toys location is exciting, and we help take the scariness out of the construction process through a dedicated Store Designer and Construction Coordinator. You will work with him to help define your space and fixture layout as well as communicate with architects and contractors, if necessary.If you’re lucky, all the space will need is a little Learning Express Toys branding!
When your Grand Opening Manager arrives on site, three weeks before your Grand Opening, it’s time to roll up your sleeves and get your hands on some toys. Over the first week or so, you will receive mountains of toys from our best-in-class vendors and learn how our systems track inventory and purchases. Our Grand Opening Manager will also help train your staff on the Learning Express Toys operations manuals and show them how to merchandise and sell some toys! This is a great opportunity to leverage the Grand Opening Manager’s extensive insight based on years of experience working with Learning Express Toys stores, so don’t be afraid to ask questions and learn from them!
We will guide you through every step of creating the perfect Grand Opening, including up-front marketing, staffing, scheduling events, and reporting. You can trust that our twenty-five-plus years of experience in the industry will help you maximize on this initial event. And, after all of the hard work you’ve done, this is a time to have some fun and interact with your new customers!
To help you understand what it takes to own and operate a Learning Express Toys store, we have broken down some important initial investment information. The investment will vary based on the size of your store, time of year you open, and build-out requirements. The range is between $197,500 and $383,775. The following table can be found in our Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD), issued to you as part of our franchise award process.

You must have at least $125,000 liquid assets to invest in opening your store. We do not offer financing, but we are registered with the Small Business Administration (SBA), which may help you in securing a loan.
